While in Baja California (one of my favorite places) earlier this month I had the incredible pleasure to spend a morning and lunch at http://www.florafarm.com/, a napa-style restaurant and farm located just a few minutes outside of San Jose del Cabo.

As a local San Franciscoan, I often forget how lucky I am that I can drive to Sonoma, Yountville, and St. Helena for a truly world-class dinner on any night of the week. One of my favorite restaurants in the world is a place called Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch. This isn’t a review about Farmstead, but to give you the quick overview, it’s a farm-to-table style restaurant where most of the vegetables and meat come from their very own Long Meadow Ranch, and everything else comes from nearby farms. The quality, preparation, and service make for an incredible dining experience.

Now, back to Flora Farm. Sitting in the desert of Baja California is a culinary oasis that holds its own against its bretheren up in Napa. The first thing you notice as you drive into the farm is the incredible gardens full of lettuces, kale, spinach, pomegranete, carrots, and much, much more. And then you see the buildings on the grounds themselves. Cute, shabby, comfortable terraces, walkways, and covered patios make up the bar, kitchen, restaurant, and market at Flora Farm.

When we first arrived, it was hot, and I mean really hot. This is August in Baja California.
